Back for its second year after a successful kick-off in 2020, the digital programme offers aspiring international journalists the chance to enhance their professional skills.

Applications for Ruptly Academy are now open, giving students the chance to gain first-hand knowledge and insights from Ruptly’s expert team.

The free programme begins on October 28 and runs the course of 10 weeks. Successful applicants will gain training in some of the most fundamental areas of the profession, including sourcing and pitching stories; reporting from war zones and conflict hotspots; filming and editing; live streaming; and identifying fake news.

Students on the programme gain access to expert-led video tutorials and assignments, feedback webinars and continuous personal mentoring from the senior newsroom team, while also opening doors to potential employment opportunities for the most promising talent. The course is ideal for current circumstances as it has been designed for remote delivery, accommodating global time zones and providing flexibility to suit participants’ schedules.

Last year’s Academy drew participants from all over the world, many of whom shared positive feedback on their experience. Some are still in contact with Ruptly: pitching content with the advantage of being a known source, and discussing formal recruitment opportunities when COVID-19 restrictions allow.

Ruptly's CEO Dinara Toktosunova said: “After the resounding success of last year’s Academy and the continued uncertainty faced by today’s young reporters, it was an easy decision to reprise the programme for a second year. We discovered some really promising talent and continue to develop relationships with these bright young journalists. We’ve seen from last year’s cohort the good that Ruptly Academy can do, and we look forward to helping a second wave of aspiring reporters to catch their big break.”

To be considered, potential candidates need to send a short video explaining what makes them ideal for this opportunity, along with a CV and covering letter.

Applications are open until 27 August and will be considered in order of receipt due to last year’s large volume of applications. Get more information on Ruptly Academy.
